I’ve been experimenting in various ways to bridge the gap between analog and digital, but all devices have fallen flat because I couldn’t use my own familiar tools. The supplied pens or pen tools are still too clunky! Recently a video came across my Facebook feed for something called the Slate. It’s a ring and tablet that use magnetic forces to digitize your work on whatever medium you are using, paired with your tablet. And that’s the downside, it only seems to work with the tablet within a drawing app. I’d much rather it work with both tablets and desktops so it can be used in Photoshop or Illustrator (though it does allow you to export drawings to .svg or .psd), but this is still a step in the right direction. I haven’t bought it yet, so I can’t give a testimonial on how it works, but it certainly looks promising and a great tool for when you’re sketching on the go. And at $159, it’s not a terrible price either. If anyone reading this has one, let me know if you like it!
