I’m extremely impressed with those trained in formal calligraphy. I’m always afraid that if I were to learn the more formal side of lettering, that my work will lose a certain quality that people are drawn to. But when I see work like that of Francesca Biasetton, I get green with envy. It’s amazing, it’s delicate, it’s powerful, and I secretly deep down inside want to learn how to do this.
This work requires discipline and flexibility, a fine balance between the two. The good thing, is that as I continue this work – I want to grow and if it pulls me into this direction, I’d be completely okay with that.
Below are some samples from Francesca Biasetton’s Flickr, most of them from a workshop that she attended with Luca Barcelona, another excellent master of letters. I posted about her work here before, and continue to admire it from afar.
